Volcanic ash - health and travel update

Most flights will be grounded in UK controlled airspace until at least 7:00 am Monday morning. This is because of volcanic ash from an erupting volcano in Iceland. Find out how the volcanic ash could affect your health, travel plans and consumer rights.
Airport closures and flight cancellations,.Restrictions on flights in UK controlled airspace will remain in place until at least 7:00 am Monday morning. Flights have also been suspended in several other north European countries.As the ash cloud moves some flights may be able to operate within Scotland and Northern Ireland.However, it is highly unlikely that many flights will operate today and anyone hoping to travel should contact their airline before travelling to the airport.
Volcanic ash
This is because of volcanic ash from an erupting volcano in Iceland. The cloud of volcanic ash has now spread across the UK and is continuing to travel south. As well as reducing visibility, volcanic ash can damage aircraft engines and poses a real safety threat to aircraft.
Advice to passengers
If you are planning to fly today or tomorrow you should check with your airline before going to the airport.
