Attack on the British ambassador in Yemen
26/04/2010 09:37:37
An attack, has been carried out on a convoy of the British Ambassador in Yemen.
The attack took place in the country's capital Sanaa, and the diplomatic representative of the United Kingdom has managed to emerge unhurt.
"The Foreign Office is urgently looking into this case," said a spokesman of the ministry, who could not confirm the explosion near the car Torlot was riding in.
According to British media reports, the ambassador, who was apparently traveling to the embassy when the explosion occurred, was unhurt, but a person, who does not belong to UK personnel serving in Yemen has been killed.
Torlot, 52, was appointed ambassador of Yemen in 2007 and among its destinations include the deputy chief of mission at the British embassy in Baghdad.
United States and the UK temporarily closed their embassies in Yemen in January amid fears of a possible attack by the terrorist network Al Qaeda.
